The Startup Magazine That Believed in Technology

Berlin Valley established itself since late 2014 as Germany's premier startup magazine, published from a city that was, at that point, the undisputed capital of European tech entrepreneurship. The editors believed — and this is important, because not everyone did — that technology could improve the world, and they built a platform to give voice to the people working to make that happen.

The magazine covered company culture, business strategies, and recruitment while interviewing founders, investors, and thought leaders from across Germany's tech ecosystem. It offered readers the kind of insider perspective that most business journalism either oversimplifies or buries in jargon: the actual practices of successful entrepreneurs, the decisions they made, the mistakes they learned from, and the strategies they employed when the money ran out or the product failed.

What made Berlin Valley valuable was its willingness to treat startups as cultural phenomena rather than merely economic ones. The magazine understood that Berlin's tech scene was not just about venture capital and growth metrics — it was about a generation of people who chose a particular city at a particular moment because they believed in a particular idea of how the future should work. The magazine documented that belief with both enthusiasm and editorial rigour, producing a record of an era that would be much poorer without it.

Berlin's startup scene has changed considerably since 2014 — the rents are no longer cheap, the easy optimism has been tempered by economic reality, and the tech industry's relationship with the world has grown more complicated. But Berlin Valley was there during the boom years, documenting the energy, the ambition, and the occasionally naïve idealism of a generation that moved to Berlin because they believed they could build something that mattered. Whether or not they were right, the magazine made sure the story was told.
