WHALEBONE is a lifestyle magazine that began by printing T-shirts and distributing magazines from an old van throughout Montauk, New York, and has since expanded — though it is still there, in a way. The editors are not exactly in a hurry, which is sure to irritate anybody wondering why the current issue is taking so long to arrive in the mail. Hold on, they say. It will be there shortly.
The magazine was once dubbed possibly the world's ninth-best publication, but the editors prefer to think of themselves as a community of like-minded people who all believe that being delightfully disoriented and putting some fun into the world is not the worst way to spend your time. WHALEBONE covers surfing, travel, food, culture, and whatever else catches its attention, with a tone that is warm, funny, and entirely unconcerned with being taken seriously by anyone who does not already get the joke.
