THE TASTIEST ZINE IN THE WORLD

The New York-based magazine Put A Egg On It publishes digest-sized art and literary magazines printed on green paper. The focus is on food, cooking, and the joys of eating with friends and family. Aside from personal essays, the magazine features cooking tips, special art projects and photo essays of dinner parties. There is also a recipe section in every issue.

This indie food magazine was founded in 2008 and is considered a forerunner in the explosion of independent food magazines. The magazine is reminiscent of DIY photocopied music fanzines of the late 1980s and early 1990s in that it abstains from conventional food magazines' aspirational approach in favor of a more documentary-based and inclusive one. Rather than traditional food writing, Put A Egg On It invites fiction writers, poets, musicians and artists to write about their own experiences and take us along on their culinary journeys. Every issue includes recipes gathered from chefs, artists, grandmothers, and friends, with each recipe telling an inspiring story about its creation.
