2600 The Hacker Quarterly is a quarterly US journal that is widely read in the hacking and phreaking communities. It was formed in 1984 by Eric Corley, also known as Emmanuel Goldstein, and focuses on information and communication technology security vulnerabilities. The name of the magazine was inspired by a 2600 Hz tone employed by phreakers in blue boxing in the late 1960s. This was utilized in the American telephone system at the time to deceive free calls.
