The Tricycle Foundation, founded in 1990 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational organization, is devoted to making Buddhist teachings and practices widely accessible. The Foundation established Tricycle: The Buddhist Review in 1991, the first publication to expose Buddhist viewpoints to a Western audience. Tricycle quickly established itself as the major independent newspaper of Buddhism in the West, and it remains the most inclusive and widely read medium for the propagation of Buddhist beliefs and ideals.

Tricycle offers a unique and independent public platform for investigating Buddhism, developing a dialogue between Buddhism and the larger society, and bringing Buddhist ideas to Western disciplines by staying unconnected with any one teacher, sect, or lineage.

Tricycle has won the renowned Folio Award for Best Spiritual Magazine three times and the Utne Media Award twice, most recently in 2013.
