Jennifer Acker, the current Editor in Chief of The Common, launched the American nonprofit literary journal in Amherst, Massachusetts. Since 2011, the journal, which is located at Amherst College, has published biannual editions containing tales, poetry, essays, and photographs. The magazine's efforts are focused on the theme of "a contemporary feeling of location," and it strives to offer literary space to underrepresented creative voices.
